Exporting Key Notes from Excel

Posted by Andrew on April 27th, 2009 filed in Key Notes, Tip of the Week

When you try to export key notes (or attach GUIDs to notes), the Visual Basic macro goes to each worksheet and selects the contents. If there is a blank row of cells (with no data in any of the columns) the selection will stop at that row. The result will be that only some of the key notes will be exported.

To ensure that all of the notes are exported, remove all blank rows from the worksheets.

Using Breaklines

Posted by Andrew on April 20th, 2009 filed in Rapid Details, Tip of the Week

The RD – Breakline object is a symbol to show a break in construction for a detail drawing. While it is simple enough to use, there are some useful techniques that you may not be aware of.

When you place the break line, you should use the ‘rotate and stretch’ geometry method as indicated on the object’s Custom Settings dialog. This allows you to place, orient and stretch the symbol into place in one shot. Click in the info box to select this option before you place the break symbol.

The break line includes a solid, white ‘masking’ fill. This is designed to screen out all lines and fills that it covers.

tss2 Using Breaklines

By default the masking fill is placed to the left of or above the break line, but you move the dynamic hotspot to pull it to the opposite side or to extend the area of fill.

Of course, you will need to bring the display order of the break line to the front, or it may not mask out some elements.

Merging WallBuilder across storeys

Posted by Josh on April 6th, 2009 filed in Accessory Tools, Tip of the Week

When you have claddings that need to merge across Storys (for example, weatherboards) you can use the
Set out boards from settings in the Claddings Tab to define where the cladding is set out from. This
ensures the boards are continuous across Stories and also remain the correct size and spacing.

You also need to set the Contours to Best within the 3D Window Settings; this ensures there is no line between the two objects.
