Using the Decking Builder

Posted by Josh on July 27th, 2009 filed in Accessory Tools, Tip of the Week

The decking builder uses the accessory tool to attach decking to a slab.

Select the slab, then select the Design > Design Extras > Accessories > Slab Accessories… menu and chose the Decking Builder object.

Once created the origin, orientation and edge types can be adjusted using the dynamic hotspots.

Adjusting the origin and orientation

By default the show direction arrow flag should be on, but if not turn it on in the interface.

The Hotspot at the base of the arrow adjusts the origin of the decking.

The Hotspot at the arrow end adjusts the orientation.

Once all set up the arrow can be turned off again.

Adjusting the edge types

At the centre of each edge there is a dynamic hotspot for adjusting the edge type of the edge, the possible options are:

No Edge Board: the Decking goes right to the edge of the slab.

Half Board: A half width board gets placed along the edge, use this option on two adjoining slabs to create a board along the join

Full Board: A full width board gets placed along the edge

WindowBuilder preview window Problems?

Posted by Josh on July 20th, 2009 filed in Door and Window Builder, Tip of the Week

If you have installed Door and Window Builder recently or have changed the Font size settings of your computer, you may find the Window Builder Glazing page displays a distorted preview of the window. A typical example will be like this:

totw24071 515x302 WindowBuilder preview window Problems?

To fix the problem, look for a file called “cadi_ScrollBarWidth.txt” under “…\ArchiCAD 12\ArchiCAD Data Folder”. Then open this file using a text editor(ie. Notepad or TextEdit). You will see the file only has a number in it. This number specifies the width of window preview area.

Depending on the look of the preview window, you will need to either increase or decrease the number in “cadi_ScrollBarWidth.txt”.

If the preview window looks like the one above, then decrease the value by multiples of 7, eg: decrease it by 7, 14….

If the preview window looks like the following:

Then increase the value by multiple of 7, eg: increase it by 7, 14

Display Stair winder treads in layout book

Posted by Josh on July 6th, 2009 filed in Stair Builder, Tip of the Week

Sometimes, you may encounter tread lines from StairBuilder are missing in layouts. This is due a problem with the Display Order.

To correct this, right-click on each of the winder components from the bottom to top, and change the display order to “Bring to front”. It is important to select only one winder component at a time. Selecting multiple winder components and changing the display order will have no effect.
